Chapter Twenty-Eight

Kiley

I can’t breathe. I can’t believe I actually let that happen. What was I thinking?

Tears run down my cheeks as I stare at the sky.

“Fuck. Sweetness, are you okay? I didn’t hurt you, did I?” Chase is on his knees next to me, worry all over his face.

I just shake my head and sit up, reaching for my stuff. “No, it’s not you. I’m sorry, but that shouldn’t have happened.”

When I turn back to him, I can see the anger start to show in his eyes, rolling in like storm clouds. “Kiley, don’t start giving me the bullshit story about how it shouldn’t have happened because you’re with my brother. I know you don’t love him, and I know there’s something else going on.”

“Fuck you, Chase. This has nothing to do with him. I couldn’t give a fuck about him. In fact, I hope he fucking dies, and soon.”

Fuck, fuck, fuck. As soon as the words leave my mouth, I regret them and clamp it shut.

“Really?” His eyebrows raise, and he crosses his arms across his chest. “So why are you playing house with him?”

I guess it’s time to have a talk, but not here. “We need to get back. We can talk then.”

He narrows his eyes at me but nods. “Fine. But this isn’t over. We will finish this conversation, and I have a funny feeling that Danny needs to be there for it as well.”

What is he talking about? What would Danny know? We grab the rest of our clothes and head back to the house. My body still reacts to him on the ride home, but I manage to control myself. The guilt is eating me alive. Everything has gone wrong, so wrong.

We pull up, and I’m off the bike so fast that I almost fall over.

“Shit, Kiley, calm down. Whatever it is, it can’t be that bad.” Chase catches me but I pull back, shaking my head. He doesn’t understand.

I sigh in relief—or maybe frustration—when I walk inside and see Danny, but then I see the look on his face.

“Kiley, I was wondering when you were going to be back. Thank fuck it was so soon.”

I frown. “What’s wrong?”

“Santos is on his way home. He should be here in an hour or two.”

Yeah, my sigh was in frustration. We’re screwed.

“Okay, someone needs to start talking.” Chase comes through the front door and then stops when he sees us. “What’s going on?”
